Dr Ed Boets is a general ophthalmologist since 1998 with special emphasis on cataract and strabismus (squint) surgery. During his training at the University Medical Centre Leiden (Netherlands) he obtained his PhD degree in 1995 with a thesis titled "Fluorophotometry of the anterior segment of the eye with special attention to contact lenses". In 1998 he worked as a staff specialist at the University Medical Centre Maastricht (Netherlands). From 1999 to 2007 he had his own practice in Utrecht and was chairman of the patient education committee of the Dutch College of Ophthalmology from 2003 until 2007. From April 2005 to January 2007 he was treasurer of the management of the Medical Staff (140 specialists). He is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
